Faculty positions at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels are available in the Kao Autoimmunity Institute (KAI) of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The Institute is based in Cedars-Sinai’s Department of Medicine and has deep partnerships with the Division of Rheumatology and Lung Institute. Recruits can also be considered for secondary appointments in the Department of Biomedical Sciences or the Department of Pathology – which together host many outstanding immunology laboratories - as well as in the recently established and rapidly growing Department of Computational Medicine.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in translational science and seek to address key questions relevant to systemic autoimmune diseases, ranging from immune tolerance mechanisms to the pathogenesis of organ complications. Candidates from all areas of biology and with approach ranging from computational to experimental will be considered, with priority given to establishing immunology and/or matrix biology laboratories. The Institute strongly encourages applications from candidates interested in spatial immunology and tissue microenvironment studies.

KAI occupies a new laboratory building located in Beverly Hills, CA, which also hosts the new Cedars-Sinai Human Microbiome Initiative. In addition to competitive space, salary and startup funding, KAI will also provide its members with access to well-maintained shared equipment, and to an Institute-based translational core. Our goal is to help KAI members focus on the science rather than bureaucracy and enhance their access to high quality clinical cohorts as well as expertise in clinical science of autoimmunity. Collaborations with Lung Institute faculty focused on complications of connective tissue diseases will be strongly supported.

Cedars-Sinai is the largest academic medical center in the West. In 2022 Cedars-Sinai is ranked #2 in the nation and #1 in California by U.S. News and World Report. Cedars-Sinai is renowned for its generous investment in translational and clinical science, its collaborative and inclusive culture and the well-supported, state of the art core facilities and technology hubs. New hires will have access to outstanding colleagues based in several well-integrated Research Institutes and Centers, and to graduate students from the Cedars-Sinai PhD Program, which includes growing tracks in immunology and computational sciences.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree (PhD and/or MD) or equivalent
  • Excellent record of publications in reputable journals
