Postdoctoral Researcher position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Louis Hodgson at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. We engineer fluorescent FRET biosensors for high-resolution live-cell imaging of cellular motility, migration and invasion signaling pathways. We seek motivated candidates with backgrounds in basic cell and molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, protein engineering, and light microscopy imaging.

The Hodgson lab is developing monomeric, single-chain Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based biosensors for Rho family small GTPases and their downstream targets. We most recently pioneered a multiplex FRET biosensor technology in which we visualized two orthogonal FRET biosensors in the same cell at the same time (Nat. Chem. Biol.: PMID: 29686359).  We develop these biosensors and apply them in real, hypothesis-driven biology research in our laboratory.  Our model systems include breast cancer invasion and metastasis (Nat. Cell Biol. PMID: 24859002 ; J. Cell Biol. PMID: 9061650; J. Cell Sci. PMID: 23704350; Curr. Biol. PMID: 21474314), macrophage motility and chemotaxis (J. Immunol. PMID: 26951800), and other general cell biology of cellular motility (Nat. Chem. Biol. PMID: 27501396).

The Hodgson laboratory is located within the state-of-the-art Gruss-Lipper Biophotonics Center and the Microscopy Innovation Laboratories at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. We collaborate with investigators from both within Einstein and from multiple leading academic research institutions around the world. We have access to sophisticated core facilities and services, and the departmental support from the Molecular Pharmacology Department include weekly invited seminars by leading investigators, journal clubs, work-in-progress seminars, workshops as well as other social and professional events organized also by the Einstein Belfer Institute for Postdoctoral Research.https://analytics.click2apply.net/v/dapRXmIYRzoMc4q4CRPlb We encourage writing and applying for postdoctoral fellowships within the first year of the postdoctoral training, which will be an important training opportunity for a postdoctoral candidate.

The ideal candidate should have recently (within 0-1yr) obtained a PhD in cell and molecular biology, biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering or a related field and expertise in at least one of the following areas:

Cell biology: Cell motility assays; actin cytoskeleton dynamics analysis; cellular Rho-GTPase assays; cancer invasion; cell motility signaling; cell adhesion signaling; receptor and non-receptor tyrosine kinases signaling; cancer invadopodia biology; cancer invasions and extracellular matrix modulation; adhesion receptor regulation. Molecular Biology:  Molecular cloning; DNA processing and purification; protein engineering; structural analysis; site-directed mutagenesis; random-mutagenesis and screening. Immunology: macrophage cell culture; lentiviral production and transduction; chemotaxis assays; working knowledge in chemokine signaling pathways. Light microscopy: Live-cell imaging; quantitative imaging; ratiometric analysis; fluorescence lifetime imaging; FRET imaging; superresolution microscopy, TIRF imaging. The Einstein base minimum salary for postdoctoral positions is $56,485. Interested individuals should send cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references to Dr. Louis Hodgson, Professor of Molecular Pharmacology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine; louis.hodgson@einsteinmed.edu
