Position Overview We are seeking an independent and motivated researcher for the position of Research Assistant Professor in the Tumor Microenvironment and Metastasis Program within the Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center. This position is in the laboratory of Dr. Brendon Stiles at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY), based within the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery in the Montefiore Health System. The Stiles Laboratory is focused on the role of ART1, an extracellular mono-ADP-riboslytransferase, in immune regulation in the tumor microenvironment. ART1 expression on cancer cells serves as a novel immune checkpoint through mono-ADP-ribosylation of P2X7 receptors on immune cells and subsequent NAD-induced cell death. The Stiles Laboratory is exploring which immune cell subsets express P2X7R and is also identifying other targets of mono-ADP-ribosylation on immune cells and on cancer cells themselves. In addition, the Stiles Laboratory is part of the Integrated Imaging Program for Cancer Research (IIPCR) at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The successful candidate will join a collaborative translational research team that seeks to explore other novel therapeutic targets in the tumor microenvironment for the prevention of cancer progression and metastasis. In particular, as part of the newly established Lung Cancer Dissemination and Metastasis research team within the IIPCR, Dr. Stiles and his team are evaluating the role of complexes of perivascular macrophages, tumor cells, and endothelial (tumor microenvironment of metastasis – TMEM) to form functional “doorways” for hematogenous dissemination of lung cancer cells. In this research, the Stiles Laboratory will work closely with established investigators in the IIPCR including Dr. John Condeelis, Dr. Maja Oktay, and Dr. David Entenberg. The laboratory utilizes patient materials, murine models of lung cancer, multi-omics approaches, and cutting-edge imaging technology to better define the role of ART1 in immune regulation and of TMEM doorways in cancer metastasis. We are keenly focused on developing novel therapeutics. Dr. Stiles, a surgeon-scientist, is a well-known, clinician, translational researcher, and is a national leader in the field of lung cancer. Duties & Responsibilities The Research Assistant Professor will be responsible for engaging with, supervising and assisting the current laboratory team and will serve as Lab Manager. He or she will perform cell-based assays and in vivo murine tumor models, particularly as they relate to the tumor immune microenvironment. The candidate will also be involved with translational work with human samples, including analyzing blood samples and tumor and normal tissue, particularly by multi-channel immune fluorescent staining, by flow cytometry, by RNAseq, and by proteomics. Mouse models of lung cancer will also be utilized to interrogate the mechanisms identified from clinical findings and the candidate will oversee all animal experiments. He/she will also conduct data analysis using biostatistics software and coordinate with bioinformatics collaborators. This person will also coordinate with internal and external collaborating investigators. Experience and Education Applicant must have a doctoral degree with background and technical skills in protein biochemistry and cancer biology and have a demonstrated record of innovative scientific accomplishments as evidenced by first-author papers published or accepted in major journals. Knowledge of biostatistics is required. The candidate needs to be highly organized, maintain accurate experimental records, present at weekly lab meetings, journal club, and national conferences and publish scientific papers. Qualified candidates must also have strong communication skills, have a strong passion and commitment to science, and work well within a diverse group of basic science researchers, thoracic surgeons, pathologists, nurses, clinical coordinators, post-docs, technicians, and graduate students. Salary Range for this position $90,000-$105,000 Please forward CV to brstiles@montefiore.org and erika.urie@einsteinmed.edu The Albert Einstein College of Medicine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information. Einstein seeks candidates whose skills, and personal and professional experience, have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence, and the communities we serve. https://www.click2apply.net/QLl2gauJyXXzBH48QSgrlw PI197254746
