The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB), and Division of Genetics, Genomics, Evolution, and Development (GGED) at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) invite applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor-in-Residence level. The candidate will be joining a world class department in Genetics, Genomics, Evolution, and Development, providing tremendous opportunities for engagement in interdisciplinary research of the highest quality. We seek candidates studying fundamental aspects of genetics, genomics, evolution, and/or developmental biology.

The Professor-in-Residence (PiR) series conveys membership in the Academic Senate. The incumbent will be expected to engage in service to the Department and Berkeley campus commensurate with rank and career progression. As a member of the MCB faculty, the incumbent will be expected to teach or co-teach approximately 15 lecture hours per year, inclusive of the responsibilities that normally accompany instruction (e.g., holding office hours, developing curriculum, evaluating course work).

This is a 100%, full-time position expected to be funded at 75% from research support and 25% from Departmental funding in recognition of teaching commitments.

The PiR series does not confer tenure; the successfully candidate will be initially appointed in a two-year term with possibility of renewal pending performance and funding.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in a Ph.D. or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
PhD (or equivalent international degree) at the time of appointment to Assistant Professor in Residence.
Preferred qualifications
A Ph.D. or equivalent international degree in Biology, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, or a related field. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence, originality, and productivity in research, and an interest in undergraduate
and graduate teaching and promoting diversity and equal opportunity.

This position could entail diverse teaching in genetics, genomics, and biophysics, so please discuss the potential of teaching diverse undergraduate courses including Genetics Genomics, and Cell Biology (MCB104), General Genetics (MCB140), Genetics Lab (MCB140L), Physical Biology of the Cell (MCB137L), and graduate courses including Advanced Genetic Analysis (MCB240), and MCB288 (Data Science for Molecular and Cell Biology) and additional courses and bootcamps in Quantitative Biology and Computational Biology.
