What You Will Achieve

The role of the Associate Scientist is to assist in the lab-based development and qualification of molecular biology assays for testing vaccine products. The incumbent will also be involved in the high-throughput clinical testing of human nasopharyngeal swabs and blood samples. This role will be responsible for RNA and DNA extraction, real time PCR, handling bacterial and/or viral stocks and human pre-clinical samples, and preparing/validating new reagents. As an integral member of this dynamic team, the incumbent must have a strong work ethic and be highly collaborative with the other group members. All work is to be done in a compliant manner according to relevant SOP guidelines and GLP and/or GCLP guidelines, when required. The incumbent is expected to exercise and build basic team effectiveness skills {e.g., commitment, feedback, consensus management} within the immediate work group.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Perform PCR assays for DNA and RNA detection in clinical samples
  • Extract human and virus RNA and DNA using manual and robotic methods
  • Operate Hamilton Vantage workstation for execution of high-throughput sample analysis
  • Execute testing of preclinical and clinical samples to meet program timelines
  • Prepare/ validate new reagents
  • Assist in updating and writing documents including standard operating procedures (SOPs), reagent reports, and data archiving
  • Assist in maintaining the laboratory, including ordering/ restocking supplies, updating reagent inventory, and ensuring cleanliness
  • Satisfactorily complete all cGMP/GLP and safety training in conformance with Departmental requirements. Where applicable, performs job responsibilities in compliance with cGMP/GLP and all other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • BS in biological science or biochemistry or molecular biology. Minimum of 1 years of experience in molecular biology laboratory and PCR
  • Experience working in a highly regulated laboratory environment
  • Knowledge of current Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs)
  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment with shared resources and effectively communicate across teams
  • Excellent record keeping abilities to adequately recordanalytical data generated in support of regulatory requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint


Nice-to-Have
  • MA/MS degree
  • Pharmaceutical and biotech drug discovery experience
