Position Summary The Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) seeks to hire a Senior Scientist in the Cancer Protein Initiative. The Senior Scientist will oversee a facility focused on selecting and engineering proteins that can be used to treat and study cancer. They will engage LCCC investigators to identify signaling pathways and biological processes implicated in human malignancies, and lead protein design and selection campaigns aimed at generating novel proteins that can be used to regulate the pathways of interest. The facility will make use of modern methods for selection of protein binders from large engineered libraries and will collaborate with UNC investigators developing new deep learning based methods for protein design. It is anticipated that the engineered proteins will prove useful as both biologic drugs and as targeting ligands for cell-based cancer immunotherapies. UNC is a leader in the development of CAR-T immunotherapies and is regularly advancing new therapeutics into clinical trials. It is expected that the director will publish key findings in leading journals and assist in obtaining extramural funding.
