The Opportunity

The Department of Psychological Sciences invites applications and nominations for the position of tenure-track Chair and Associate or Full Professor.

The new Chair will serve as an advocate for a dynamic group of faculty members with diverse research interests and expertise in animal models of disease, neuroscience, cardiopulmonary physiology, aquatic and environmental toxicology, reproduction/development, and bone biology.  In addition to the conduct of extramurally funded biomedical research, department faculty members contribute significantly to the CVM’s educational mission through instruction of professional veterinary medical students in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and toxicology as well as high-quality research training of doctoral-level graduate students in areas aligned with their individual research interests.

In addition to being a part of the UF Academic Health Center, UF CVM is aligned strategically with the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and has strong ties with the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Together, these alliances create opportunities for vibrant research collaborations that are fostered through campus-wide research institutes and centers, including the Breathing Research and Training Center, Clinical Translational Science Institute, the Center for Environmental and Human Toxicology, the One Health Center of Excellence, Artificial Intelligence and many others.

The UF Veterinary Hospitals bring additional opportunities for clinical/translational research through a diverse and robust caseload of small, large, and exotic animal patients each year.  CVM faculty are actively engaged in cross-disciplinary research programs which contribute in part to UF’s consistent ranking among the nation’s top ten public universities according to US News & World Report. 

 

The Department of Physiological Sciences

The Department of Physiological Sciences’ primary instructional mission is the education of veterinary medical students in a variety of disciplines, including anatomy, cell biology, pharmacology, physiology, and toxicology.

In addition to the instruction of professional degree (DVM) students, the Department is responsible for the Physiological Sciences section of the college graduate program.  The education of graduate students is closely tied to the critical mission of research, focusing on comparative aspects of biology and disease. The requirements of these missions led us to recruit a blend of basic science and clinically oriented faculty. This combination of disciplines and interests proves to be a very successful means of fulfilling our extensive instructional mission while maintaining an excellent research program.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Oversight and responsibility for all educational activities of the department and personnel. Responsibility for maintaining the Departments accreditations. Oversight of the research activities in the Department including hiring and supervision of all levels of faculty and staff. Oversight of all administrative and financial affairs of the Department. Active promotion and solicitation of gifts to sustain the clinical, research and education missions of the department including overseeing grants and other funding opportunities. Evaluation and mentorship of all department faculty to ensure the department is recruiting, hiring, developing accomplished diverse faculty members in an equitable and inclusive manner. Design and provide career development and promotion opportunities for faculty members.

 

Requirements:          

• Doctorate (DVM, PhD, MD, or equivalent professional degree) Active and ongoing record of extramurally funded research Proven experience in Academic leadership, team building, and university instruction. Documented experience in academic leadership, team building, university instruction, Strong organizational and communication skills Proven Commitment to fostering an environment of inclusion, collegiality, and equal opportunity

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong visionary with leadership experience in Physiological medicine in an academic teaching or research setting. Academic rank of an assistant, associate, or full professor Experience collaborating across disciplines. Experience in enhancing departmental programs and fostering career growth for faculty and staff.
