D-23-SPI-00025 | Program on Science and Global Security, Princeton School of Public and International Affairs | Research | Posting Expires 11/04/2023 11:59 PM, EDT

Princeton University's Program on Science and Global Security, based in the School of Public and International Affairs, is seeking candidates to fill one or more postdoctoral or more senior researcher positions to advance our work on nuclear arms control, disarmament, nonproliferation, fuel-cycle modeling, nuclear energy, and global security challenges from the militarization of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, quantum technologies, platforms and sensors with continuous global coverage, and hypersonic, high-precision, maneuverable weapons. A recent PhD in physics, engineering, or other relevant fields and strong interest in technical and policy research to advance national and international policies for a safer and more peaceful world are required.

The benefits-eligible postdoctoral appointments are for a twelve-month term, starting in September 2023 or an earlier agreed date, with the possibility of renewal for another 12 months, contingent on satisfactory performance and funding. Rank and salary will be determined on the basis of experience and accomplishments.

Postdoctoral researchers with SGS are expected to be active participants in one or more of our collaborative projects, which may include work to support the International Panel on Fissile Materials (IPFM) based at the Program. Postdoctoral researchers also will work with and help mentor graduate students in our Program, participate in the regular SGS seminar series and other Program activities, and assist with relevant undergraduate or graduate courses. Program Faculty and senior researchers will offer mentoring to support professional development.

Princeton University is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. We actively seek students, faculty, and staff of exceptional ability and promise who share in our commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship, and who will bring a diversity of viewpoints and cultures. In doing so, we encourage applications from individuals whose personal identities, backgrounds and/or interests (as demonstrated by their research, teaching, service, mentoring and/or advising) align with our commitments and will contribute to the excellence and diversity, in its broadest terms, of our department.

Names of finalists will be shared confidentially with the funder, Carnegie Corporation of New York, for monitoring, evaluation, and learning process, and will not be shared beyond this relationship or sold. Your application must be submitted online at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/28361 and should include a cover letter, a curriculum vita, a one-page research proposal, a relevant writing sample, and the names and contact information of two individuals who can provide letters of reference. Please let me know if you have any questions.  If possible, I would appreciate if you send me a copy of the final listing.
