The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) at Texas Tech University (TTU) invites applications for a full-time, continuance- and promotion-eligible Assistant Professor of Practice in Physiology. The responsibilities for this position include teaching in the Anatomy & Physiology rotation, and Pathophysiology in the face-to-face format each long semester. These are large courses and combined serve approximately 300-450 students each semester. Theses courses are part of the non-majors Anatomy and Physiology series taken by pre-nursing, kinesiology, and other health pre-professions students. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the department, college, and university through service duties that include program-building and extra-curricular activities.

 

Qualified applicants must have: 1) A Ph.D. in Biology, Physiology, or related field, or an advanced clinical degree; 2) Experience teaching anatomy & physiology or relevant coursework (e.g., comparative physiology; vertebrate physiology, etc.) at the instructor level; 3) Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers both inside and outside the department; 4) Commitment to learn about the career trajectory needs of pre-nursing and allied health students at TTU; and 5) Demonstrated commitment to mentoring students in professional and career preparation and serving as liaison with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

 

Desired qualifications include: 1) Demonstrated potential for effective teaching of anatomy & physiology and/or pathophysiology for general education, non-majors, and health pre-professions students; 2) Knowledge of and familiarity with active and inclusive teaching practices, particularly in large (> 200 student) courses; 3) Demonstrated ability to successfully serve a diverse student population, including first-generation students; 4) Familiarity with, or commitment to learn about, health equity and the role that social, societal, and structural factors play in human health and (patho)physiology; and 5) Demonstrated involvement with professional higher ed and/or medical teaching organizations (e.g., Human Anatomy & Physiology Society; National Association of Biology Teachers; National Science Teachers Association; American Physiological Society; etc.).

There is the opportunity to teach in the summer to supplement the guaranteed competitive 9-month salary.
