About NMS

As a pioneering oncological R&D company, NMS has always set benchmarks in therapies for oncology, committed to improve patient health through discovering, developing and delivering lifesaving medicines. The history of NMS can be back tracked to 1965, when Farmitalia SpA opened a research center in Nerviano, close to Milan, Italy. Over the past 50 years, the Nerviano R&D site has played a role in the fight against cancer, starting from the discovery and development of anthracyclines drugs such as doxorubicin, which are among the most successful class of anti-cancer agents discovered to date and still widely used in treating multiple cancer types in combination regimens. Through different stages of evolution, including being the reference R&D Oncology site of the global Pharmacia company for about 10 years, the center became today’s stand-alone organization known as Nerviano Medical Sciences (NMS). Building on its strong scientific competence and IP position, the most recent achievements from NMS’s continuous research and innovation are the out-licensed products in the current portfolio: encorafenib currently commercialized by Pfizer as Braftovi®, for which NMS outlicensed IP rights to Novartis/Array Biopharma, entrectinib outlicensed to Ignyta and now commercialized by Roche as Rozlytrek®, one of the first targeted therapies with agnostic label in a molecularly defined patient population, milciclib outlicensed to Tiziana Life Sciences, onvansertib to Trovagene (now Cardiff Oncology) as well as NMS-293 a second generation PARP1 selective inhibitor on which NMS has recently signed a collaboration agreement with outlicensing option with Merck KGaA.

Today NMS is the R&D core business of the holding company NMS Group, which includes a total of about 430 employees. The outstanding discovery and clinical development team of about 130 researchers at NMS is focused on inventing and developing First-in-Class/Best-in-Class small molecule therapies, with more than a dozen anti-cancer projects in its robust pipeline, including five assets generated by its internal research currently in clinical development. NMS and the other Group affiliates Accelera and NerPharma together cover all the drug discovery and development process, from target identification & validation to preclinical and clinical development.
