Position summary:
The Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise (http://hnfe.vt.edu) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty appointment with research and teaching responsibilities at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are seeking an outstanding individual with expertise in studying cardiometabolic function in health and disease. Individuals with expertise in studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating mitochondrial energetics in the context of dietary and/or exercise interventions in animal models and/or humans are encouraged to apply. We have a strong interest in individuals who can work with interdisciplinary teams. Unique opportunities are available to collaborate with existing faculty conducting clinical and translational research and undergraduate and graduate education. Collaborations are possible with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI), the Fralin Life Sciences Institute (FLSI), the School of Neuroscience, and the departments of Animal and Poultry Sciences and Biochemistry, among others. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the department, advise graduate students, and participate in relevant service activities.
Responsibilities:
The candidate is expected to:
- Develop/maintain a nationally and internationally recognized extramurally-funded research program to complement and expand research programs in HNFE and the CALS
- Teach undergraduate/graduate courses in exercise science
- Recruit and mentor graduate students and post-doctoral fellows
- Participate in advising and service/outreach activities
Required qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in exercise science or a closely related field
- Post-doctoral research experience
- Demonstrated record of accomplishment of research productivity through major publications
- Active major extramural funding or strong evidence of the likelihood of obtaining such funding in the near term
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research independently and collaboratively
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong commitment to quality student education
