Summary
Supports the Department of Pediatrics/Newborn & Palliative Care. The Research Administration Associate will primarily focus on advanced level support in pre-award administration, at the grant application proposal stage; but will also contribute to award activities throughout the award life cycle: cost assessment, budget development, financial set-up, resource allocation, and preparation of quarterly reports. Primary focus will include Basic Science and Human Subject Research, with a significant amount of awards that are federally funded.

Job Duties
- Provides guidance to investigators for proposal development and submission, by interpreting granting agency guidelines and instructions.
- Provides budget input and guidance to principal investigators when drafting budget justifications, creates the budget spreadsheets, and completes other budget forms for submission and reporting.
- Negotiates industry-sponsored contracts, including clinical trial agreements, sponsored research agreements, and material transfer agreements.
- Communicates with BCM Accounting, Grants & Contracts, and collaborating institutions to ensure sub-awards and independent consultant agreements are established and executed in a timely manner.
- Manages Cost/Effort allocations in PEPT/SAP for research faculty, employees, and learners.
- Manages the Time/Effort certification process in the BCM Effort Reporting System.
- Ensures compliance with all federal, sponsor, and institutional policies and guidelines and serves as a liaison between faculty, employees, learners, Baylor College of Medicine, and sponsors.
- Reports through the Pediatrics-Research Resource Office and Division leadership for key deliverables.
- Pre-award management for each division. (Awards range from $50K -$1M/ea.)
- Manages awards and sub-awards from multiple sponsors and outside institutions: industry, clinical, federal, and foundation - including, but not limited to CDC & NIH.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree. Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) may substitute for the degree requirement.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, in grant application development, budgeting, and/or grant financial management.
- Contract management and/or accounting a plus.
- Prior experience working in an academic research setting.
- Must be able to work independently, with limited supervision, supporting (10-15) active researchers in Pediatric/Newborn & Palliative Care.
- Should be familiar with pre-award grant submission processes.
- Comfortable with creating and managing contracts, subcontracts, and able to coordinate multiple projects at one time.
- Ability to understand and manage the complexities of research grants, including issues related to informed consent, access to data, and conflict of interest.
- Strong attention to detail and data quality.
