The Department of Physics at the University of Vermont (UVM) seeks applicants for two (2) tenure-track, Assistant Professor positions in Physics (Biophysics), with an expected start date no later than August 21, 2023. The department has research strengths in condensed matter physics, in particular novel quantum materials, thin films, organic electronics and solar cell research, and resources available for spectroscopic studies. We are currently looking to hire new faculty with emphasis on Biophysics.

We invite applications for two faculty positions in the area of Biophysics (one experimental and one computational).

  1. Experimental Biophysicists with expertise in the biomechanics of molecular and/or cellular biological systems and/or novel biomaterials and related subfields are strongly encouraged to apply.
  2. Computational Biophysicists with expertise in modelling of molecular and/or cellular biological systems, bio-inspired materials and nanotechnologies, bio-membranes, biomechanics and soft complex systems are strongly encouraged to apply.

Outstanding candidates in all subfields of biophysics will receive consideration. We seek highly motivated individuals who will develop successful, externally funded research programs. We anticipate that these individuals will have a strong collaborative spirit and interact with faculty in Physics, as well as those across campus in departments such as Electrical and Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, and Biochemistry.

Candidates are required to have PhD in Physics/Biophysics or closely related field and contribute to teaching at undergraduate and graduate physics levels as well as supervise physics PhD students.

UVM is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and inclusive excellence of the academic community through their teaching, service and research, scholarship, or creative arts. We are an educationally purposeful community seeking to prepare students to be accountable leaders in a diverse and changing world. Members of the UVM community embrace and advance the values of Our Common Ground: Openness, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Innovation, and Justice. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the ideals of accessibility, inclusiveness, and academic excellence as reflected in the tenets of Our Common Ground. To that end, candidates must provide a diversity impact statement as part of the application detailing how they will further the diversity of the unit through their teaching and service at the University.

UVM is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other category legally protected by federal or state law.

The University of Vermont, established in 1791, is a comprehensive research university with a current enrollment of 12,000+ undergraduate, graduate, and medical students.
