Job Details
The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.
The Sr. Health Education Specialist plans, implements and coordinates project activities aimed at establishing community outreach and education partnerships to increase awareness, understanding of research in African American communities.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
Community Outreach for Research Develops and maintains community relationships with local, regional and statewide organizations. Impacts clinical trial participation among underserved and African communities by overseeing the daily management of community outreach activities, academic and community partnerships. Supports Community Advisory Boards and Task Forces that advise the Center for Community-Engaged Translational Research (CCETR) and research projects. Creates contact/partnership databases to maintain relationships and track outreach/partnership activities. Connects researchers to populations they need to achieve their research aims. Assists with identifying culturally appropriate community engagement strategies, materials and timelines to recruit and retain diverse study participants.
Community Education, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation Plans educational programming to increase understanding of research and clinical trial participation. Facilitates clinical trial community education and training sessions in Spanish. Supports institutional and community programs to address: Health Disparities, HPV Awareness and screening, Tobacco Control, Energy Balance/Obesity and survivorship, locally and statewide. Provides ongoing support to translate research into community practice. Responsible for generating formats and reports to document achievement of program milestones. Collaborates with other institutional groups to plan CCETR's annual clinical trial awareness event.
Other Duties Other duties as assigned includes but is not limited to collaborating with researchers/investigators in preparation for oral presentations, meetings, providing periodic reports to CCETR, research teams and/or other entities interested in Community Outreach and Education.
EDUCATION:
Required: Master's degree in Health Education, Public Health, or Community Health Education or other related degrees/disciplines.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Four years experience in health education. Experience in program planning and supervision.
Preferred: Experience in Community Outreach and Engagement, health equity and program evaluation; specifically, group dynamics, and marketing of public health programs. Four years' experience in Community Outreach and Engagement, Program Planning and supervision. Experience with community education and outreach experience in diverse communities.
OTHER: Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
