We are looking for:

The Faculty of Science and Technology, Experimental Quantum Optics, is looking for two Research Associates, starting at the next possible date, contributing to the third-party funded research project "Quantum computers with trapped ions for applications" with the following conditions:

  • 100 % = 39,83 hours
  • Pay grade 13 TV-L
  • limited to 30.11.2026

 

About us:

At the Chair of Quantum Optics, we have developed groundbreaking methods to control trapped ions using high-frequency radiation and use them as an elementary switching unit (a qubit) in a quantum computer. We research and develop this system and thus prepare the Basis for novel types of scalable quantum computers.

 

Your tasks:

Your research activities will focus on novel approaches and methods for quantum computers with trapped ions. Your tasks include:

  • Responsible planning, simulation and construction of innovative experimental apparatuses
  • Preparing and carrying out experiments with trapped ions, data analysis, and publishing scientific results
  • Guidance of other scientists in the team
  • Cooperation with national and international research partners and third-party funding agencies

 

Your profile:

  • University degree in physics
  • Doctorate in physics
  • Sound knowledge of quantum mechanics
  • Essential for successful participation in the above-mentioned project are a high level of interest in the task at hand, exceptional commitment and initiative, and a strong ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
  • International publications and participation in academic exchange (conferences, reviews, research reports, etc.)
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: experimental quantum optics with atoms, molecules or solid-state based systems, quantum information processing, laser spectroscopy and -cooling, microwave technology, laser technology, optics, vacuum technology, control electronics, and computer control of experiments.
  • very good knowledge of English
