SUMMARY
The successful applicant will lead and oversee projects in the Manning laboratory that primarily entails the Chemical Biology of tracer and probe development. As such, the primary purpose of this position is to provide experimental leadership and support for research projects specifically focused at the scientific interface between molecular imaging tracer and molecular probe discovery, with emphasis on Chemical Biology, compound credentialing, prioritization, imaging, and validation. The incumbent will apply his/her technical expertise and scientific background and manage and oversee the research activities of philanthropic, federal and state, and industry sponsored awards in the space of Chemical Biology, Imaging Science, preclinical cancer research, and supportive chemical synthesis. He/She will create innovative solutions involving technology, methodology, tools, and solution components for research initiatives in the discovery and translational chemistry research environment. He/She will work with laboratory personnel to enhance multi-disciplinary departmental collaborations. The position will maintain professional and cooperative relationships with business partners, administrators, research scientists/investigators, and other academic professionals to ensure efficient communication, follow-trough, and coordination of scientific short/long range goals.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Research Planning

• Leads research initiatives and provides oversight of laboratory research programs; Chemical Biology of Tracer Discovery
• Coordinates, implements, and evaluates the various activities, functions, and procedures involving the daily activity within the chemical biology research laboratory.
• Directs the effective operation of translational tracer and chemical probe discovery research projects as required.
• Utilizes various computer systems and databases to enter, retrieve, compile data and prepare reports for review.
• In conjunction with the PI, establishes and maintains research collaborations with biotech and pharmaceutical firms in correlation with chemical biology laboratory projects.
• Actively prepares and submits for presentation and peer-reviewed publication, abstracts and manuscripts related to research outcomes.
• Assists in the preparation of scientific portions of grant applications: 1) First-draft author scientific portion of grant; 2) Develops relevant figures and figure legends; 3) Liaises with collaborators - internal and external - for multi-investigator grants; 3) Reads relevant literature to develop background and strategy for grants; 5) Prepares ancillary scientific documents for grant submissions.

Research Management

• Implements, reviews and reports on scientific research plans, ensuring the strategic objectives are well understood and executed.
• Actively engages, cultivates and manages collaborative relationships to ensure efficient execution and achievement of milestones.
• Oversees daily activities of research personnel in the chemical biology lab.
•Trains, schedules, and coordinates the activities of research personnel..
• Ensures compliance with all regulatory and safety standards and enforce policies and procedures.

Scientific Operations

• Collaborates with a variety of faculty, staff, physicians, both internally and externally, as well as industry collaborations.
• Develops metrics to measure and report upon research outcomes for experimental and/or new research initiatives.
• Collaborates with Regulatory and QA officials to assist in defining best practices and implements certification and compliance as applicable.
•Oversees regulatory related compliance activities.

Other duties as assigned

Required Degree: PhD in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree.

Required Experience: With PhD, no experience required. With Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.

Preferred Experience: The applicant must have significant experience in Chemical Biology. Proven experience and expertise in compound credentialing, prioritization, imaging and validation.
