The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in experimental quantum/advanced materials and devices with an anticipated start date of August 2023. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the fabrication, characterization, and/or application of quantum materials and devices, novel high-performance materials, biomaterials, and functional devices/materials for energy/environmental applications. However, outstanding candidates in all fields of materials physics/device physics/nanoscience will be considered. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in physics or a related discipline with at least one year of postdoctoral experience. The new hire will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally funded research program, to contribute effectively to high-quality mentoring and teaching, and to foster an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). The Department has a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.

The Department, which currently has 23 faculty members, 10 of whom work in the area of nanoscience and condensed matter physics, has extensive collaborations in the Department of Chemistry, the School of Engineering, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory including a quantum network graduate student training program. Further, UGA is a member of the Battelle Savannah River Alliance managing and operating the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). Faculty have the opportunity to build collaborations with SRNL research staff as well as leverage co-located facilities such as the planned DOE Advanced Manufacturing Cooperative, which will include cutting-edge materials modeling and simulations.
