What you will Achieve

The Associate Process Development Technician will join the Bioprocess Development Group as an Administrative Technician. They will provide lab-based and organizational support necessary to assist the team in the development of next generation manufacturing processes, new laboratory technology, and new workflows to make the group more efficient. We anticipate the successful candidate will become a key lab steward for the group.

How you Will Achieve It

This role's day to day functions can be divided into administrative and experiment support-based responsibilities. Additional administrative and experiment support tasks for this role will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

Administrative:

  • Maintain desired stocking levels for lab consumables: vials, pipettes, bottles, etc.
  • Maintain desired stocking levels for solvents; keep track of peroxide forming solvents and discard prior to expiration date and refilling mobile phase bottles for analytical systems
  • Manage waste in the stock room/dock area
  • Removal of bulk solvent waste
  • Setup new waste drums and sharps waste containers as needed
  • Deliver incoming packages to lab personnel
  • Primary owner for initiating and tracking standing purchase orders with frequently used vendors
  • Order new lab equipment when necessary to replace existing units
  • Organize/Deliver samples for shipment to other sites or third parties
  • Maintain capital equipment lists for lab team
  • Oversee maintenance of in-lab equipment by initiating yearly service contracts, scheduling vendors for PMs or other repairs
  • Schedule monthly safety inspections for the group
  • Write up and follow up on work orders for building repairs
  • Coordinate interactions with Repair and Maintenance teams
  • Organize group meetings and events
  • Interact as needed with other areas within the department


Experiment support:

  • Plan/organize daily tasks. Maintain area and equipment in clean, safe, functional order. Participate in safety reviews and inspections.
  • Design the layout of lab equipment, storage location for supplies and materials to allow for the most efficient use of space and ease of use by group members.
  • Complete 5S style setup of spaces and establish best practices for working to sustain optimal working order for all scientists.
  • Setup and cleaning of shake flask experiments to facilitate experimental work by group members.
  • Assist in execution of experiments by preparing stock solutions, executing recipe-driven procedures, delivering samples for analytical testing, and organization of solid and solution samples until project completion.


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • High School Diploma (or GED) with 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining a high quality of data integrity
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and detail oriented
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including the ability to maintain accurate records.


Nice-to-Have
  • Science-based associates degree or 3+ years of experience in chemistry laboratory roles
  • Proficiency using various computer applications including, but not limited to: Word and Excel
  • Previous experience with lab safety guidelines


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Role requires the ability to lift approximately 20 pounds and work with mechanical equipment (skid lift, carts, pumps)
  • The position requires an ability to work in a laboratory environment performing experiments in a laboratory hood and to setup samples for analysis or shipping
  • Must be able to wear PPE (lab coat, safety glasses, gloves, face shield, etc.).


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

A standard day shift operation totaling approximately 40 hours per week is expected for this role, although some weekend coverage may be required at times as warranted by business need.
