Department of Orthopedic Surgery

 

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of South Alabama Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine is seeking to fill one research-intensive tenure-track assistant/associate professor position dedicated to the study of ligament, tendon or cartilage injury, repair, prevention and post traumatic osteoarthritis. The candidate will collaborate with existing programs and labs in the Whiddon College of Medicine Departments of Physiology and Cell Biology and Department of Pharmacology and the College of Engineering at University of South Alabama. Orthopedic program interests include the study of sports and trauma musculoskeletal injury, knee ligament injury prevention and risk, bioinformatics, musculoskeletal, and mitochondrial biology, biomedical imaging, mechanics, and modeling.  Successful candidates will have research programs that complement these ongoing efforts, and they will contribute to the college’s graduate and medical education mission.  We are seeking individuals who are highly engaged and work well with basic and clinical collaborators, with exceptional written and oral communication skills. Teaching opportunities exist in the College of Engineering and in the College of Medicine including the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. These opportunities will balance the academic experience and allow career advancement.

Competitive applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, postdoctoral experience, and demonstrated aptitude in competing for extramural grant support.  Review of applications will begin immediately.
