The SchragLAB at Vanderbilt University Medical Center has an opening for a post-doctoral researcher to study molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease, focusing on lysosomal abnormalities in neurons.  The lab is well-funded and supported by two staff scientists, an experienced lab manager and a senior research technician. The PI, Matthew Schrag MD, PhD, is a vascular and cognitive neurologist and Beeson scholar. We are affiliated with the Department of Neurology, Vanderbilt Brain Institute and the Vanderbilt Memory and Alzheimer’s Center.  The available project will focus on evaluating neuronal lysosomal acidification, function and trafficking with a specific goal of identifying druggable targets in the context of Alzheimer’s disease. The SchragLAB hosts the Vanderbilt Brain and Biospecimen repository, enabling us to perform cutting edge neuropathological analysis. We also work with mouse models, organotypic tissue culture and cell cultures, including diverse IPSC-based techniques. We leverage a range of advanced microscopic techniques including CLARITY, light-sheet microscopy and high-content imaging. Applicants should have a track record of productivity and have completed (or soon complete) their PhD in neuroscience, cell biology, molecular biology, pharmacology or a related field.  Experience with induced pluripotent stem cells, confocal microscopy, CRISPR-Cas9, transgene vector construction, R and/or matlab are highly desirable.  The start date is flexible and salary according to the NIH scale.
