The Department of Cell & Systems Biology in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the field of Cell Biology of Development. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023.

We seek outstanding applicants with a track record of demonstrated excellence in applying cell biological approaches to address fundamental questions in animal developmental biology that will enhance and complement the strengths of the Department of Cell & Systems Biology in genomics, developmental biology, cell biology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. We are particularly interested in candidates that use cutting edge approaches in imaging, mechanobiology, and/or systems biology to address questions of developmental cell biology.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field (e.g., Molecular & Cellular Biology, Systems Biology, Synthetic Biology, Developmental Biology, Genome Biology, Genetics, etc.), substantial postdoctoral experience (at least two years), and a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue a vigorous, innovative, and independent internationally recognized research and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

Evidence of excellence in research will be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant academic journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, evidence of peer-reviewed research funding, trainee mentorship, and strong endorsements by referees of high standing. Research excellence will be evaluated commensurate with the career stage of the candidate, taking into consideration the life, trajectory, and any special circumstances (e.g., career interruptions) as outlined in the submitted materials.

In addition, we expect excellence in teaching and a commitment to mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. This will be demonstrated by strong endorsements from referees of top international stature, teaching experience and accomplishments highlighted as part of the application and a teaching dossier to include a statement of teaching philosophy, sample course materials and teaching evaluations.

Candidates are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment demonstrated through the application materials.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
