ROLE SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly motivated, exceptional biochemist to support early-stage drug discovery efforts at our Pfizer, Boulder Research & Development site in Boulder, CO. This individual will be responsible for developing high-throughput screens, biochemical potency assays, and mode-of-action studies in a collaborative team environment. The candidate will work closely with structural biologists, protein chemists, computational, and medicinal chemists and will take a functional leadership role on their project team(s) in our fast-paced drug discovery environment aimed at creating "breakthroughs that change patients' lives."

Able to adhere to safe work practices and perform lab work with appropriate personal protective equipment such as but not limited to safety goggles, gloves, lab coat, and closed toe shoes.

Work Location Assignment: On Premise
For roles based in Colorado: The annual base salary for this position ranges from $93,200.00 to $155,400.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 15.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and/or eligibility.

Research and Development

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, performs, and analyzes biochemical experiments in an independent and timely manner
- Serves as the enzymology lead on project teams by developing assays to evaluate compound potency and communicates the results to project teams
- Engages with the literature to drive an understanding of the project's target, and designs experiments to interrogate the mode of action of ligands
- Serves as a scientific resource and mentor for junior colleagues
- Evaluates new platforms and methodologies for internalization
- Interacts with research staff in other departments to accomplish project goals
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry or related field with 5+ years of relevant post-graduate experience or M.S. with 10+ years of relevant post-graduate experience
- Experience in conducting and analyzing in vitro biochemical assays to elucidate the mode of action of small molecule ligands
- Knowledge and practical experience with enzyme kinetics (e.g., history of using methods for determining mode of inhibition, kinact/Ki, allosteric behavior, etc)
- Strong problem-solving skills as evidenced by successful examples or peer-reviewed publications that raise, investigate, and elucidate scientific questions
- Capable of operating independently with regard to technical problems and procedures
- Excellent oral and written communication, including to audiences without biochemistry expertise
- Track record of successful scientific mentorship of junior scientists
- Ability to perform complex data analysis and proficient in the use of computer software to fit and interpret analytical data such as GraphPad, XLFit & Spotfire
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with laboratory automation and HTS workflows
- Experience conducting assays in microtiter plates
- Familiarity with protein expression, structural biology, and biophysical methods
