The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. In the context of setting up the new Upper Franconia Medical Campus, the Faculty of Law, Business & Economics at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a
Full Professor of Planetary & Public Health
at salary grade W3 to commence as soon as possible. This will initially be a fixed-term civil service position limited to a period of five years.
We invite applications from scholars with an excellent track record in research and teaching. The professor will conduct internationally competitive research and teaching on climate- and environment-associated health, economic and social impacts and their relevance for public health care. This should include support for climate-sensitive health literacy and counselling, translation into the reality of care, the organization of health policy with crisis management and, in particular, the impact on health economics.
The professorship is integrated into the Upper Franconia Medical Campus, a recently established cooperation that is expected to become a permanent fixture in the region. The Upper Franconia Medical Campus serves to train physicians in the new degree programme “Human Medicine Erlangen / Bayreuth” at Bayreuth Hospital under the auspices of the Medical Faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. With this and other new professorships in medicine, the University of Bayreuth is creating an outstanding research environment at the Upper Franconia Medical Campus.
The expertise required for the professorship should be evidenced by publications in high-ranking international journals, successful third-party funding and a clearly recognizable academic profile. A high level of networking ability, communication skills, and an affinity for interdisciplinary research and academic development work would be welcomed. We also invite applications from scholars who have so far only partially represented the above-mentioned areas of expertise, but who wish to focus on them in the future. Proven organisational and leadership skills, e.g. by setting up or leading their own research group, would be an asset.
In addition to academic governance, the postholder should be available for courses within the context of the Upper Franconia Medical Campus and to promote and support the planned participatory transfer of knowledge and resources between students, business, policy-makers, the public health service, and members of the public with an interest in the subject. Teaching is to be provided primarily at the Upper Franconia Medical Campus. The ability to teach in English is expected.
We would like to attract a university lecturer who, due to his or her qualifications and research orientation, can contribute to the networking of African research, natural sciences, law, food sciences, and health sciences within the University of Bayreuth as well as to the Bayreuth Hospital, the Erlangen University Hospital, and the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, and who can participate in joint research projects of the faculties and the Upper Franconia Medical Campus. In this regard, experience in international and interdisciplinary cooperation is essential.
The general administrative requirements for hiring professors at universities in Bavaria apply. A complete description of the vacancy can be found at www.uni-bayreuth.de/en.
Applications (CV including a list of publications, list of courses taught, experience obtaining by external funding, as well as copies of all diplomas and certificates) are to be addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Business & Economics, Prof. Dr. Michael Grünberger, and submitted via https://uni-bayreuth.berufungsportal.de by 30 October 2022.
