The Center for Liver Research in the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE is seeking faculty (rank DOQ) candidates with expertise in immunology, biochemistry, and molecular biology of liver diseases affected by alcohol and co-morbid HIV, HBV, and HCV infections. The selected candidate will work closely with established skilled multidisciplinary investigators pursuing studies of antiviral therapy, the liver-brain axes, and drugs of abuse. The candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an independent, extramurally funded, nationally recognized research program to unravel mechanisms and treatments of liver disease, pathogenesis, and treatment approaches. Potential areas of interest are:

  • mechanisms of HIV, HBV, HCV, and alcohol-induced liver injury
  • exosomes in therapeutic delivery and pathogenesis
  • long-acting antiviral and immunomodulating drug development
  • studies of innate and adaptive immunity; lysosome and proteasome biology; posttranslational protein modifications that affect disease onset and progression
  • mechanisms leading to end-stage liver diseases and their prevention.

In addition to developing a strong extramurally funded research program, the successful individual is expected to make significant contributions to our professional, undergraduate, and/or graduate teaching programs and provide opportunities for research training in the frames of the summer undergraduate research program. Participation in departmental and university service and commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment is expected. Salary and start-up packages will be commensurate with the experience of the selected individual. Interested candidates should apply at the following link: https://unmc.peopleadmin.com/postings/74514. Candidates should include a C.V., Cover Letter, and three letters of recommendation signed, on letterhead, describing the relationship to the applicant, past work/academic performance, work qualities/personal conduct, and an overall assessment of research capabilities. The three letters of recommendation should be uploaded as “other document”. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
