The Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences (EPS) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in physical processes that influence the solid Earth.  Earth’s physical processes are broadly defined and include seismology, volcanism, geomorphology, hydrology, and anthropogenic influences on land surfaces.  Possible approaches include field, laboratory, computational, and theoretical studies.  We seek to attract an individual who will establish an innovative research program and teach both undergraduate and graduate students.

A doctorate or terminal degree in a field of science related to Earth’s physical processes is required by the expected start date, currently July 1, 2023.  We also seek candidates who have a strong commitment to teaching. We value diversity in our faculty and are committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community.  We especially welcome applications from members of historically underrepresented groups and candidates with experience teaching and working with diverse communities and students.

Please submit applications online at: https://academicpositions.harvard.edu/postings/11682

Required materials include a cover letter, curriculum vita; a statement of research and teaching interests; a statement describing efforts to encourage diversity, inclusion, and belonging, including past, current, and anticipated future contributions in these areas, and up to four representative publications.  In addition, please provide the names and contact information of 3-5 referees, who will be asked by a system-generated email to upload a letter of recommendation once the candidate’s application has been submitted. Three letters of recommendation are required, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received. At least one letter must come from someone who has not served as the candidate’s undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral advisor.  We will begin reviewing applications on November 15th, 2022.

Further information about EPS is available at http://www.eps.harvard.edu/.  Address questions about the position to Professor Peter Huybers (phuybers@fas.harvard.edu) and about the application process to Emily Bowman (ebowman@fas.harvard.edu).
