The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, and the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases, at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary invites applications for a tenured faculty position, in the field of Systems Immunology, at the rank of Professor.  Applicants currently at the Associate Professor level eligible for promotion to Professor are encouraged to apply.  The selected candidate will be nominated for a Tier I Canada Research Chair CRC).   The CRC is tenable for seven years and renewable once.

Qualifications include an PhD and/or MD (not practicing clinical medicine) or equivalent.  The successful applicant will be a recognized or emerging leader in the field leading to a better understanding of the role of systems immunology in host defense, autoimmune disease or transplantation and includes disease modifying therapy. The successful candidate must demonstrate evidence of an ability to lead a research team, obtain CIHR or equivalent national grant support and effectiveness in teaching at the University level. Applicants must present evidence of a strong publication record, work that has influenced and led to significant advances in the field and a well-established ability to obtain peer-reviewed funding.  The applicant must also meet the criteria for a Canada Research Chair at the Tier I level. The applicant will be recruited to the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases and will align with priorities and become a member of the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases. The successful applicant is expected to lead an independent and collaborative research program in systems immunology research within a multidisciplinary research environment that will complement existing strengths and allied groups within the Cumming School of Medicine and core facilities, which include the International Microbiome Centre, a newly renovated Containment Level 3 facility, the Live Cell Imaging Centre, and the Perkins Microbial Communities Core. Criteria for evaluation will include the extent to which the applicant has directed a successful program and published in high impact journals that have influenced subsequent publications and the field. The successful applicant is expected to operate a training program of high impact.

The selected candidate will be expected to be committed to undergraduate education and teaching at the graduate level.  Experience with lecturing and innovative educational approaches, course development and coordination, and a demonstrated record of contribution to undergraduate teaching is required. Successful applicants will also be expected to make contributions to areas of service.
