Job Details

The Senior Research Scientist will apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, supervise and carry out research projects involving proteomics technologies and related informatics that impact cancer research efforts within the McCombs Institute. These projects include multicenter clinical studies for the early detection of breast and lung cancers; DoD/NIH-funded programs for biomarker discovery; Moon Shots programs including the Proteomics platform; and industry-sponsored research within the Institute.

Laboratory Operations

• Plans, organizes, coordinates, and participates in proteomics research projects.
• Independently designs, coordinates, and executes scientific research projects related to biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.
• Design, develop, and adapt appropriate laboratory models and equipment to evaluate scientific questions including cell lines and animal models.
• Formulate specific goals and objectives to be obtained; develop and refine techniques and approaches to meet scientific and research challenges.
• Responsible for laboratory equipment and implementing safety procedures.

Data Analysis and Reports

• Report and present research findings; serve key roles in grants and manuscript writing; develop research protocols.
• Evaluate, interpret and integrate research data; oversee data management and analysis
• Apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, supervise and carry out research projects involving proteomics technologies and related informatics that impact cancer research efforts throughout the institution.

Teaming

• Selects and manages lab personnel. Review and evaluate activities and milestone accomplishments of lab personnel on research projects.
• Works directly with other team members to achieve research goals and aims.
• Plays a collaborative role, interacts with, and provides input to investigators in the McCombs Institute in a timely and interactive fashion.
• Communicates effectively with supervisor, collaborators, and co-workers on scientific and other challenging issues pertaining to the work.


EDUCATION:
Required: Ph.D. in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Three years of experience in experimental or scientific work.

Preferred: Laboratory experience in cell biology, cancer biology, Metabolomics, Proteomics, and/or Therapeutics,
