A post-doctoral research position is available at the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. The NIH-funded project focuses on deciphering the structure of enamel protein assemblies at near-atomic resolution and examining their ability to guided mineral formation as well as developing nano-structured templates that emulate mineralization of dental enamel in vitro. The studies are highly interdisciplinary and cooperative and examine the interface between organic and inorganic matter with a wide spectrum of experimental techniques in biology, chemistry and materials engineering (Bai et al. PNAS 2020; Huang et al. JBMR 2021; Akkineni et al. PNAS 2022). You will join a multidisciplinary team of scientists led by Dr. Stefan Habelitz at UCSF in collaboration with Dr. James DeYoreo (Pacific NorthWest National Laboratories), Dr. Johan Bonde (Lund University, Sweden) and Dr. Yifan Cheng (Gladstone Institute, San Francisco).
