We are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow-molecular biologist to join our immunology-infection-oncology group headed by Dr Christopher Rudd, Université de Montréal in collaboration with McGill University in Montreal, Canada. The Rudd lab has played a major role in defining signal transduction events linked to the development of T-cell immunity, previously at Harvard and Cambridge Universities, that led to the development of chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) and other immune therapies. We are focused on the identification of T-cell receptors and signalling pathways that regulate T-cell responses against cancer and viral infections. The work will include molecular cloning and the development of novel CARs for cancer therapy against tumor associated antigens (such as CD19, GD2/3 and others).  The candidate should have a high-level command of standard and advanced molecular cloning and expression techniques. Expertise will involve standard vector cloning and expression in T-cells, site-directed mutagenesis, sh/siRNA approaches and possible skills in RNA profiling, CRISPR and other gene editing technologies. Experience in the mining of genotypic and phenotypic databases and bioinformatics will be an asset.  A background in immunology is an asset but not essential. The work will discover new immune regulators and potential combination therapies against cancer.  We are part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary research centre with active translational research programs in immunotherapy against cancer. Good oral and written communication skills are required. Examples of papers from the lab include Taylor et al 2016 Immunity, 44:274-86; Krueger J and Rudd CE. (2017) Immunity 46, 529-531; Raab et al.,Nat Commun. 2017 8:16001; Taylor et al., 2018 Cancer Research, 78(3):706-717; Rudd 2020 Science Immunol. 5, eaaz8128; Rudd et al., 2020 Cell Rep 30, 2075-2082; Guo et al.,2021 iScience 24, 103295]. Montreal is a diverse, multicultural city in Canada with a vibrant economy that consistently ranks amongst the top cities to live in the world.  It is also a highly affordable city in terms of housing and benefits.

This laboratory-based role will give the opportunity to:

  • apply molecular and cell biology expertise to the study of immune cells and tumors
  • work with key partners in adoptive cell therapy models, computational biology, bioinformatic-omics technology
  • interface collaboratively with local and global collaborative groups exercise public speaking skills with the presentation of experimental methods and findings

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in molecular biology or related life sciences field Publications in peer reviewed journals Two or more years of hands-on experience in molecular and cellular techniques (e.g., molecular cloning and possibly western blotting, flow cytometry, cell culture)

Salary: To be negotiated dependent on experience ($40,000-55,000)
