JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Animal Work
Xenograft transplantation and passage in mice
Genotyping and crossing of transgenic mice
Administer drugs to animals by intraperitoneal injection or oral gavage.
Carry out experiments involving animals and animal or human tissues, in accord with appropriate institutional and regulatory guidelines

Tissue Culture
Culture of human and murine cells, which require rigorous sterile techniques. Experience with primary cell culture preferred.
Experience with cell counting and cell viability assays
Prepare cells for cryogenic storage
Perform cell infection and transfection

Data Collection; record keeping and data presentation
Maintains accurate, detailed records of experimental design and results
Accurate recording of experimental data and protocols
Presentation of data through text, graphs, slides, figures, and tables
Stays current with literature and incorporates literature to experimental design and presentations
Confers with supervisors with regards to results, new procedures, and modifications necessary for completion of project

Molecular and Cellular Biology
Technical experience in the following is desired:
RNA/DNA isolation, PCR and quantitative real-time PCR
Protein isolation, immunoprecipitation, Western blotting, ELISA
siRNA, shRNA, CRISPR/CAS knockout experiments
Seahorse assay experience preferred

Personnel and Research Progress Management
Management of Postdoctoral Fellows and Graduate Students
Experimental guidance and troubleshooting for subordinates
Reviews and evaluates research activity of fellow and graduate students.
Plan and supervise the training of subordinate personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, the use of laboratory equipment, and safety procedures.

Laboratory Safety/Lab Equipment Maintenance
Demonstrates and practices lab safety precautions.
Monitor and anticipate laboratory needs
Know procedure for repair of maintenance of lab equipment
Develop, record, and maintain a central repository of plasmids, bacteria, and adenovirus, using stocks developed by each lab member
Additional routine lab maintenance tasks such as record keeping of lab stocks, routine wipe tests, and preparation of sterile plastic ware for the lab; and other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Other duties as assigned

Required Education:

PhD in one of the natural sciences or related field or Medical degree

Required Experience:

With PhD, no experience required. With Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.

Preferred Experience:

Strong track record of handling projects, both in design and execution with ability to perform majority of molecular biology techniques. Experience with animal models. Significant experience in molecular biology.
