ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION IN CELLULAR BIOLOGY

The Department of Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position in the broadly defined area of Cellular Biology at the assistant professor level to begin August 1, 2023. Candidates should be working on fundamental questions of modern cell biology in any system (animal, plant, fungal, or bacterial). We encourage applications by qualified candidates using state of the art imaging, genetic, molecular, biochemical, or biophysical approaches or mathematical modeling. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a first-class, externally funded research program, and to provide state-of-the-art training for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. The new faculty will be expected to contribute to our undergraduate class in Advanced Cell Biology as well as to other classroom instruction in our strong graduate program or in the undergraduate teaching mission of the BCMB department.

The successful candidate will join an interactive group of researchers with strengths in molecular genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, and computational and mathematical biology working in a variety of model systems. There is an opportunity to join an existing T32 training grant program on biomembranes. The university supports an outstanding microscopy core that includes high-end confocal and electron microscopy. Interactions with a strong group of biochemists, structural and computational biologists at the nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratories (ORNL) are encouraged. More information about the department can be found at https://bcmb.utk.edu.

The Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in Cell Biology or related area, evidence of significant scientific productivity, and a commitment to an integrated research program that includes teaching graduate and undergraduate students. Interested candidates can submit their applications as a single PDF consisting of a cover letter, résumé, a three-page description of research experience and of the proposed research program, a teaching statement limited to two pages, and names and contact information for three references at https://apply.interfolio.com/113411. Questions about the position may be directed to: Dr. Andreas Nebenführ, Chair of the Faculty Search Committee, at nebenfuehr@utk.edu.
