Why Patients Need You

Pfizer's purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer's purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether you are in the discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy or supporting clinical trials, you will apply cutting edge design and process development capabilities to accelerate and bring the best in class medicines to patients around the world.

What You Will Achieve

Pfizer is using human genetics and functional genomics to inform the discovery and validation of new drug targets and the mechanistic understanding of disease pathology. Pfizer's Functional Genomics group, with labs in both Cambridge and New York City, is launching the Functional Genomics Technology Center at our Cambridge site. Working closely with disease biologists across therapeutic areas, the Functional Genomics Tech Center applies the latest experimental gene editing tools and novel screening approaches to bring the best new targets into the portfolio and deepen our knowledge of targets under development.

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished molecular biologist, with experience in gene editing or functional genomics screening, to contribute their technical expertise to the success of the new Functional Genomics Tech Center in Cambridge. This is an exciting opportunity to apply cutting-edge methods and contribute to the target portfolio of one of the world's leading developers of novel therapeutics.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Apply a versatile repertoire of gene editing, molecular biology, and cell culture techniques to rapidly test the functional consequences of genes and variants in appropriate cell-based model systems
  • Perform functional genomics screens in pooled and arrayed formats, including with FACS and imaging-based readouts
  • Use next generation sequencing to assess gene editing and to readout pooled screen results
  • Evaluate new gene editing and screening approaches and help develop improved methods
  • Support general lab operations, including lab safety
  • Collaborate closely and maintain productive relationships with disease area biologists and colleagues in the other Tech Center (NGS, FACS, Imaging, and Mass Spec)

Qualifications

Must-Have
  • MS with 3+ years or BS with 5+ years of laboratory experience in molecular biology or related field.
  • Track record of successful contribution to research projects, preferably utilizing gene editing methodologies, in an industry setting or comparable context in academia.
  • Expertise in molecular and cell biology, including significant experience with mammalian cell tissue culture
  • Experience with gene editing and functional genomics screening
  • Previous experience in disease-focused research, particularly in immune/inflammatory diseases, metabolic diseases, or cancer
  • Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize work, and establish strong relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with other scientists

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with next generation sequencing workflows
  • Experience evaluating and implementing new techniques, particularly in the field of gene editing
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools, particularly for pooled screening, FACS, or image analysis
