The Department Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for faculty at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline or Senior Lecturer in Discipline, a full-time non-tenure-track faculty member, beginning in Fall 2023. This opportunity is aimed at hiring an individual with broad expertise in biomedical engineering who can teach while leading our exceptionally strong master’s program as well as the Columbia BiomedX entrepreneurship grant award program. Teaching responsibilities include serving as an instructor for biomedical engineering lab-to-market courses, with a typical teaching load of two to three courses per semester.

 

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or its professional equivalent in Biomedical Engineering or a related field by the start date of the appointment. Priority will be given to candidates with experience teaching courses in biomedical engineering, including application of the commercialization of biomedical innovations. Candidates should also display a commitment to continuously improving education through the development of new instructional methods and courses and engaging in educational scholarship. Ideal candidates should also have experience in or be familiar with BME translation and entrepreneurship. Industry and/or private sector experience is welcomed but not required. 

 

Candidates at the rank of Lecturer in Discipline are expected to have teaching experience, documented evidence of pedagogical excellence, and evidence of professional growth and activity in the given field. Candidates at the rank of Senior Lecturer in Discipline are expected to have substantial experience and accomplishments, a superlative record of teaching as a lecturer, and documented evidence of pedagogical excellence in carrying out administrative or other department responsibilities.
