ROLE SUMMARY

An exciting postdoc position is available in the Biomedicine Design department at Pfizer, Andover for a highly motivated and driven PhD graduate with solid expertise in advanced mass spectrometry-based proteomics and associated bioinformatics tools. This role provides unique opportunities for development of novel and innovative mass spectrometry assays for large scale measurement of physiological protein turnover in human and preclinical species.

The successful applicant will develop and implement different sample preparation strategies from various tissue and biofluid matrices. Also, development of novel and intelligent targeted and non-targeted high resolution mass spectrometry methods and utilizing MS database search engine tools for protein identification and turnover measurement are in scope of the role. High impact publication in top tier journals is expected. Candidate will work with bioinformatics and translational modeling and simulation experts and has the opportunity to become familiar with translational sciences supporting drug development. This position requires solid technical expertise in high resolution LC-MS/MS, associated samples preparation and proteomics data analysis.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for the development of samples preparation techniques from various matrices and development of targeted and non-targeted high resolution mass spectrometry methods for proteome turnover analysis
  • Proactive engagement with the literature to use cutting edge science for novel and innovative methods to overcome challenges facing the project
  • As a strong collaborator seeking guides and communicates with colleagues and advisors for timely achievements of the goals and milestones
  • Use of bioinformatics and software tools for data analysis, interpretation and classification
  • Providing periodic progress reports and presenting at internal and external conferences or meetings and publishing at top tier journals


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry or related disciplines is required
  • Expertise in development and implementation of assays based on protein mass spectrometry
  • Experience and knowledge in operation of modern high resolution ion trap/orbitrap and triple quadrupole mass spectrometers and associated control and data analysis software systems
  • Knowledge and application of complex sample preparation methodologies as applied to protein mass spectrometry workflows techniques including tissue preparation/bioanalysis, samples fractionation and immuno-analytical techniques
  • Good level of expertise in the relevant bioinformatics tools and software for mass spectrometry data analysis and interpretation


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Lab based position requiring performing all typical laboratory related activities

Occasional travel to Cambridge (Kendal Square) is required, depending on project needs
