Assistant Professor in Metabolomics of Adaptive Responses

The University of California, Riverside (UCR) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in metabolomics focusing on cellular and physiological adaptive responses, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023. This position is part of a major initiative in the area of metabolomics, as UCR seeks to hire additional faculty in this research area in the next few years. The new faculty will build on UCR's current strengths in: evolution of secondary metabolic pathways; medicinal plants; plant secondary metabolites and human health; metabolites and human health; as well as emerging research areas such as microbiomes, eco-metabolomics, and quantitative metabolomic imaging and downstream analyses. The successful candidate will have an appointment in the Department of Biochemistry (http://biochemistry.ucr.edu).

The required qualifications for this position at time of application is a Ph.D. or M.D. degree or an equivalent degree in biochemistry, molecular or cellular biology, or a related field.

Additional qualifications that must be met at time of hire are: The successful candidate will have a record of original research accomplishments, evidenced by high-quality peer-reviewed publications; will be expected to develop a vigorous, independent, and internationally recognized research program that is able to attract extramural funding; will develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses; will advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; and will engage in both campus and professional service activities.

The preferred qualification for this position is postdoctoral experience.

In this position, applicants will be expected to set up an independent research program and must demonstrate the potential to secure extramural funding. The candidate should be able to demonstrate cutting-edge expertise in the development or application of metabolomics to address key biological questions.

The successful candidate will have access to the state of-the art facilities in cores operated by the Institute of Integrative Genome Biology (IIGB), which includes Metabolomics Core, as well as cores dedicated to bioinformatics, microscopy, proteomics, and sequencing. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive start-up package will be provided. UCR is centrally located within the Southern California area and situated in a historic citrus-growing area surrounded by mountain ranges. Riverside is an hour away from ski slopes, surfing, or hiking in mountain wilderness or desert environments, and housing in the area is affordable.
