Scientific Project Director

MOON SHOT PROGRAM OVERSIGHT
  • Oversees complex research initiatives associated with funded projects in relation to the Lung Cancer Moon Shot and Thoracic Multidisciplinary Research scientific programs focusing on milestone development, effective program planning, efficient program implementation & evaluation.
  • Ensures general project administration including all technical tasks, websites, laboratory study collaborations, administrative and operational aspects are executed in alignment with program goals.
  • Manages the protocol administration to include sponsored agreements, laboratory study agreements, material transfer agreements, and other agreements.
  • Responsible for creating and overseeing scientific project budgets, including philanthropic funds, and working with internal and external staff to ensure appropriate expense captures. Signer on associated financial accounts. Identifies and implements strategies to enhance program outcomes.
  • Reports progress to Program leaders and MS Operations on a regular basis including project-specific updates, metrics (grants/contracts and publications, etc) and financial updates.
  • Oversees the recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of program staff.
  • Conceptualizes and directs the publicizing and promotion of program.
  • Directs and oversees strategic communications.

MOON SHOT PROGRAM PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT
  • Develops new research programs and oversees long-term strategic planning of programmatic research initiatives.
  • Liaison between the Lung Cancer Moon Shot project partners.
  • Participates in scientific advisory boards, strategic planning committees, program retreats.
  • Cultivates relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Collaborates across the institution to ensure program objectives and deliverables are met.
  • Oversees and maintains all compliance and regulatory issues (federal, state, and institutional).
  • Develops and reviews research project schedules and work plans to support the long and short range goals associated with research studies.
  • Develops standardized procedures across partnership programs.
  • Ensures specific goals and objectives are obtained by the Moon Shot members, evaluates research data and develops and writes scientific reports.
  • Monitors and reviews progress of multiple research projects and reviews research activities.
  • Direct the support and monitoring for the development of patents as they move through the legal pathway.
  • Identifies internal and external funding opportunities and provides guidance on the alignment between Moon Shot projects funding and the potential of submitting applications for future funding.
  • Performs critical review of submitted materials for research funding applications related to Moon Shot activity, progress reports, and other related communications.
  • Collaborates with Program faculty and presents findings of research projects to professional groups at MDACC and externally.
  • Presents or prepares Program updates for presentation at executive committees, Lung Cancer CCSG meetings and THNMO faculty meetings. Prepares reports, business plans, strategic plans and presentations.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTIONS:

Other duties as assigned.

Master's degree.Six years experience in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical/academic research or clinical research setting to include three years research program/project management experience. With preferred degree, four years of experience in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical/academic research or clinical research setting to include one year of research program/project management experience.
