The School of Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB; http://mcb.illinois.edu/) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants for full-time tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor positions in the field of RNA biology. Applicants research program may focus on the basic mechanisms of RNA regulation, RNA-mediated disease modeling or RNA therapeutics.

The school of MCB seeks candidates who will develop an independent research program to study the roles of various types of RNAs and associated RNA binding proteins (RBPs) in both fundamental and medicinal pathways. Topics may include but are not limited to non-protein coding RNA-mediated gene regulation during organismal development, RNA and RBP function during neurological, cardiovascular, metabolic disorders and cancer, epigenetic and transgenerational inheritance, RNA genome and RNA modifications on cancer development, progression, metastasis and/or resistance, organization of cellular domains and biomolecular condensates, innovative approaches to imaging RNAs in living cells, RNA-mediated regulation in microbial systems, and functional RNA genomics including single cell RNAomics. The school of MCB hosts a strong group of colleagues with deep expertise in molecular/structural/ computational aspects of RNA biology and is especially interested in hiring faculty with expertise in RNA genomics/bioinformatics who will apply a combination of cutting-edge approaches from single cells to animal models to gain fundamental and mechanistic insights into the biology of RNA in physiological and pathological conditions.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.D or equivalent degree in biochemistry, cell and developmental biology, microbiology, molecular and integrative physiology, or closely related field, have a track record of research creativity and productivity, and evidence or potential for future independent research. The target starting date is August 16, 2023, and the salary is competitive. Successful candidates will be located in one of four departments within the School of MCB: Biochemistry, Cell and Developmental Biology, Microbiology or Molecular and Integrative Physiology, depending on the specific area of interest and expertise.  The candidate will be expected to conduct independent research, participate in our undergraduate and Ph.D. programs, and teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The position offers excellent laboratory facilities, relocation and start-up funds, and opportunities to work with outstanding graduate students.

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus offers state-of-the-art research facilities and programs and collaborative initiatives that include the Cancer Center at Illinois, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology, the Roy J. Carver Biotechnology Center, and multiple student training grants, as well as facilities for high-throughput screening, including high-throughput small molecule screening, flow cytometry and sorting, next generation sequencing and single-cell genomics, multi-model biomedical imaging (super-resolution microscopy, including MINFLUX nanoscopy, SR-SIM and OMX, cryoEM, in vitro and in vivo imaging, including the 9.4 T MRI for small animals), tumor engineering and phenotyping, transgenic mice, proteomics, and metabolomics.
