Associate Professor in Chemistry

The School of Science, Technology and Engineering at UniSC seeks applications from suitably qualified people for the position of Associate Professor in Chemistry. Current areas of research strength in chemistry within the school include environmental, natural products, drug discovery and analytical chemistry. While we are interested in candidates with an interest in natural products chemistry, we also welcome applications from talented chemists that complement existing areas of research. The successful applicant will be able to develop research and educational opportunities within and outside of UniSC as well as with industry. They will bring with them a well-developed portfolio of research partnerships and funding, grow our research impact, and have a track record of mentorship and growing the teaching and research achievements of early and mid-career staff. Experience with developing and refining curriculum in chemistry, leading to increased interest from prospective students will be an advantage.

School of Science, Technology and Engineering

The School of Science, Technology and Engineering (SSTE) brings together all non-health related STEM disciplines to create a vibrant, multidisciplinary environment that fosters innovative and impactful research and educational outcomes. SSTE is located on three of UniSC’s campuses at Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast and Fraser Coast. We are excited to be part of UniSC’s growing presence at our Moreton Bay Campus, with SSTE staff and students benefiting from existing facilities as well as three new buildings currently under construction and due to open in early 2023.

Our research has been independently rated as above or well-above world standard in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, Materials Engineering, and Technology. We have research and funding agreements with local, national and international funding agencies, as well as a number of industries. Along with UniSC colleagues from other Schools, we are founding partners with the Food and Agribusiness Network (FAN), and also members of the Advanced Robotics in Manufacturing Hub (ARM-Hub), a number of Collaborative Research Centres (SmartSat, Honey Bee Products, Marine Bioproducts), Galapagos Science Centre and the Queensland Defence Science Alliance. We are extremely proud of our success in the recent Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022 with UniSC placing 1st in Queensland and equal 31st in the world overall, with specific results of 5th for Clean Water and Sanitation, equal 18th for Life on Land, 19th for Life Below Water, and 22nd for Climate Action.

We offer a number of qualifications at both under- and post-graduate levels including bachelor’s degrees in Animal Ecology; Computer Science; Environmental Science; Environmental Management; Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronic); Information and Communication Technology; and Science, as well as Masters and Doctoral degrees. Within our Science degree we offer majors in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Ecology and Mathematics. We recognise the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in all that we do and, in collaboration with Future Learn, deliver online short courses for Life on Land SDG15 and Life Below Water SDG14. We pride ourselves on the practical nature of the education we deliver, right from the first semester of a degree. Additionally, we also have access to UniSC’s Dilli village on the beautiful world heritage island of K’gari (Fraser Island).

Our Science Discipline is a group of dedicated and talented researchers and teachers. Our research strengths include animal ecology, marine science and aquaculture, conservation and global change, natural products chemistry, biotechnology, and genetics. In the recent independent assessment of research quality (ERA 2018) the discipline scored above or well-above world standard in environmental sciences, biological sciences, and agriculture and veterinary sciences. We pride ourselves on the quality of education we provide to our students, with UniSC having the highest overall satisfaction rate of any Queensland university in Agricultural and Environmental Science; we rank 5th out of 35 universities in Australia. Our Science and Mathematics program rates the highest in Queensland in graduate satisfaction and our graduates have the highest median income in the state, one year after graduation.
