B Cell Immunologist Position Available

Postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Jiang Zhu's laboratory for highly motivated candidates who are interested in rational vaccine development for diverse viral pathogens, such as SARS-CoV-2, HIV-1, RSV, HCV, filovirus (EBOV and MARV), Flu, ZIKV, and MERS-CoV. Salary is in the range of $65,000 to $70,000 depending on prior research experience and qualifications.

Dr. Zhu holds a joint appointment in the Department of Integrative Structural and Computational Biology (ISCB) and the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Scripps Research in La Jolla, CA (https://www.scripps.edu). Dr. Zhu's laboratory combines structure-based antigen design, protein nanoparticle engineering, animal immunization, single-cell technologies, BCR-Seq, and immunological assays to develop and evaluate next-generation vaccines.

Currently, two vaccine candidates for SARS-CoV-2 and HIV-1 are under clinical development and expected to enter phase-1 trials in 2022-2023. Details of Dr. Zhu's laboratory, on-going research projects, and recent publications can be found at https://www.jzhulab.org/. Dr. Zhu is also the scientific founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Uvax Bio LLC (https://www.uvaxbio.com/), a company that aims to address global health challenges with innovative vaccine solutions.

Research projects will involve studies of vaccine-induced B cell response in animal models and humans using antigen-specific single B cell sorting, single-cell immune profiling, and BCR-Seq, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis. Successful candidates must have a recent Ph.D. in immunology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, or other related fields. Candidates with prior research experience in antibody isolation and BCR-Seq are especially encouraged to apply. Interested applicants should send the following materials in an application packet, preferably as a single PDF file, by email to Dr. Jiang Zhu (jiang@scripps.edu):

   1) Cover letter indicating current and future research interests

   2) Expected starting date

   3) Curriculum vitae

   4) Brief summary of previous research experience (2-3 pages)

   5) Names and contact information for 3 references.
