Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, both leading academic health institutions located in Houston’s renowned Texas Medical Center, seek to significantly expand our fundamental and translational biomedical research programs. We want Texas Children’s Hospital to be America’s leader in biomedical research concerning illnesses that affect children’s and women’s health. Texas Children’s is well-positioned to meet this goal: we already enjoy a culture of excellence, we are the largest children’s hospital and pediatric care provider in the United States and are the largest obstetrical care provider in Texas. The hospital is making substantial and strategic investments in growing its research enterprise by providing cutting-edge technology, infrastructure support, mentorship, and academic opportunities that will ensure our scientists’ long-term success.

Our people are the cornerstone of our success. Texas Children’s and Baylor College of Medicine therefore seek multiple outstanding investigators for tenure-track or tenured appointments commensurate with achievement and experience. In addition to competitive salaries and generous start-up packages, new Texas Children’s investigators will also be faculty at Baylor College of Medicine, where they can avail themselves of a sterling infrastructure that includes advanced core facilities and computational science support. Basic and computational scientists will dedicate their efforts to research while physician-scientists will enjoy flexible opportunities to meet both their research and patient-care goals.

Eligibility

MDs, PhDs, MD/PhDs, and those with comparable degrees from diverse disciplines are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have experience in basic, translational, or clinical research relevant to children’s and women’s health, demonstrated a commitment to scholarly activity, and achieved outstanding scientific accomplishments. We especially encourage women and those from groups underrepresented in the biomedical sciences to apply.

Research Environment

Robust opportunities for innovative collaboration exist not only within Baylor College of Medicine, the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute, and Texas Children’s Hospital, but across the Texas Medical Center and Rice University. Laboratories are located in the Feigin Research Tower, the Neurological Research Institute, and elsewhere in Texas Children’s Hospital, depending on the nature of the research. All research laboratories, facilities, and resources are located within easy walking distance. Texas Children’s uniquely large and heterogeneous patient population and its cutting-edge facilities provide ample opportunity for collaborative research.

The Texas Medical Center sits in the heart of Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city and one of its fastest growing and most ethnically and culturally diverse. Houston is known for its excellent and varied food and restaurants, museums, arts, culture, sports, and primary and secondary schools.

Application

Qualified applicants should email (1) a pdf version of their curriculum vitae and (2) a cover letter that includes (a) a two-page summary of their research interests and (b) contact information for three references to facultysearch@bcm.edu by December 1, 2022. (Although we may consider applications sent after December 1st, applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received.)

The Search Committee will contact selected candidates for in-person interviews and research presentations.

Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital require employees to be fully vaccinated (subject to approved exemptions) against vaccine-preventable diseases including, but not limited to, COVID-19 and influenza.
