The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the University of Maryland invites applications for open-rank, tenure-track faculty positions in all areas of chemistry and biochemistry. Candidates in the areas of theoretical/computational quantum chemistry and experimental bioanalytical and biophysical chemistry are particularly encouraged to apply.
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry is within the College of Computer, Mathematical & Natural Sciences, home to six research Centers & Institutes and ten academic departments. A new chemistry building is catalyzing a new era in the molecular sciences at the University of Maryland. The Department is dedicated to transformative research and education programs that impact society through the generation and application of new knowledge, and the preparation of students for meaningful work. The University of Maryland, College Park is the flagship campus of the University of Maryland System and is ideally located close to Washington, D. C., Baltimore, and Maryland’s 270 Technology Corridor. Its faculty enjoy close interactions and collaborations with nearby government labs that include NIH, NIST, FDA, NCI, NRL, NASA and ARL.
Successful candidates are expected to develop vigorous, renowned, and well-funded research programs, and be dedicated and effective teachers and mentors of students at all levels. The criteria for selection include proven excellence and outstanding potential for scientific impact through original research and scholarship. Additional value is placed upon experience working with students from diverse and historically underrepresented backgrounds. A Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry or a related field is required. The target start date is August 16, 2023. Salary is commensurate with rank and qualifications.
