What You Will Achieve

Pfizer's BioMedicine Design Biotherapeutic Expression and Purification group (BEP) is seeking a creative and driven senior scientist to join our efforts in the development of novel RNA therapeutic platforms. This candidate will develop and implement state of the art RNA production processes for mRNA as well as other novel RNA modalities such as circRNA, saRNA, etc. The goal is to deliver high quality RNA substrates for in-vitro screening as well as in-vivo grade pre-clinical RNA therapeutics supporting the RNA-based therapy portfolio across Pfizer. The candidate should have a strong background in RNA biochemistry, purification, and characterization. Experience in RNA engineering and screening is also highly desired. The candidate will contribute to the group wide deliverables, work on several projects simultaneously, and present results and updates at group meetings.

How You Will Achieve
  • Lead the development and implementation of efficient IVT & purification protocols for novel RNA therapeutic candidates
  • Actively develop new technologies to optimize RNA production workflow and support new RNA modalities
  • Develop and conduct biochemical and cellular assays for RNA production quality control such as IVE and innate immune activation
  • Provide high quality RNA candidates to discovery project teams
  • Propose experimental designs and work closely with cross-functional teams, project leads and senior group members on identifying/advancing best strategies and planning/executing deliverables
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including therapeutic discovery teams, research units, bioanalytical teams, formulation teams, engineering leads, and R&D project leaders
  • Routinely generate top quality data packages and present at project meetings
  • Effectively manage multiple projects to ensure timely delivery


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • PhD in Chemical/Biochemical/Biological Engineering, molecular biology, biochemistry or a related discipline
  • Deep understanding of RNA biochemistry and biotherapeutic production processes
  • Knowledgeable and hands-on experiences in preparative and analytical HPLC liquid chromatography methods
  • Extensive experience with DNA and RNA manipulation (including recombinant DNA techniques, IVT, DNA/RNA isolation, purification, and analysis)
  • Experience in cell culture, cell line maintenance, and various reporter assays (including flow cytometry)
  • Curiosity and passion for research with strong interest in RNA therapeutics, creative and flexible thinking
  • Ability to plan, organize, problem solve, design experiments, work efficiently independently and in a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills


Nice-to-Have
  • Experience in engineering and screening for novel RNA modalities such as circRNA, saRNA, etc., is highly desired
