Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Deerfield Management have created the Center for Protein Degradation (CPD) at DFCI. The CPD has created a next-generation protein degrader and molecular glue platform to advance novel therapeutic modalities. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a newly founded research center that is pushing the boundaries of targeted protein degradation research and accelerating the translation of basic science into clinical solutions.  Join our highly interactive team of scientists where we are creating new avenues of therapeutic intervention. The Center for Protein Degradation (CPD) is seeking a medicinal chemist to join the Chemistry Group. The individual will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to identify novel molecular glues and degraders applying their expertise in medicinal and synthetic chemistry.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the medicinal chemistry aspects of hit-to-lead for Center projects
  • Independently plan, manage, and perform experiments. Develop project proposals, timelines, and resource needs. Monitor milestones and ensure deliverables are completed on time.
  • Design and execute multi-step organic syntheses to deliver novel molecular glues and degraders.
  • Collect and analyze experimental data and identify next steps based on outcomes.
  • Plan and manage external research efforts with CROs and other collaborators to accelerate CPD projects.
  • Present project status and outcomes to colleagues and leadership.
  • Present and publish research externally.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or a related discipline, with at least 2 years post-doctoral experience and/or 1-2 years industry experience (preferred).
  • Experience leading medicinal chemistry projects is required.
  • Expertise in medicinal chemistry design; structure- and fragment-based drug design experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and emerging technologies such as: HTS screening, small molecular hit-to-lead optimization, medicinal chemistry, structural biology, proteomics, target ID, ADME and PK/PD.
  • Skilled in use of chemistry lab equipment and experienced in relevant techniques – NMR, LCMS, HPLC, flash chromatography.
  • Management experience working with CROs preferred.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Scientific drive, demonstrated by a proven track record of publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
