The Wistar Institute is a world leader in early-stage discovery science in the areas of cancer, immunology, and infectious disease. Wistar is committed to accelerating research advances from bench to bedside through brilliant science and distinctive approaches to collaboration among scientific investigators and academic and industry partners. Wistar’s dynamic environment supports the advancement of discoveries that will change the future of human health.

The Wistar Institute is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, mentoring, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of our academic/research community.

The Wistar Institute has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the laboratory of Dr. Meenhard Herlyn which focuses on the biology that underlies melanoma, the most aggressive form of skin cancer. The Herlyn laboratory has established a large repository of PDX (patient-derived xenografts) and organoids, which they continue to genomically and biologically characterize. They use a humanized mouse model in combination with high-throughput sequencing and state-of-the-art imaging to dissect the molecular and cellular mechanisms of how immune cells are associated to immunotherapy resistance. The Wistar Institute is also developing a Core Facility for PDX (and organoids), not only for melanoma but also for other cancers including ovarian, breast, and prostate carcinomas.

Candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent) or be close to obtaining their doctoral degree. The successful candidate will be immersed in an interdisciplinary research environment and should be highly motivated, with a strong background in immunology, cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology, or related field. The ideal candidate will be an excellent team player, both within the laboratory and with outside collaborators, have hands-on laboratory experience, and be able to work productively on multiple projects. Animal handling experience is a plus.

In addition to submitting the online application, applicants must send the following via e-mail to Dr. Meenhard Herlyn (herlynm@wistar.org):

A CV including a list of publications, manuscripts in preparation, and technical skills; A brief cover letter stating the reasons for their scientific interest in the lab; The names and contact information for a minimum of 3 references The Wistar Institute is located in the University City area of Philadelphia, in the heart of the University of Pennsylvania Campus.
