Position description
EARTH SECTION RESEARCHER

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California San Diego (http://scripps.ucsd.edu) invites applications for full-time Researcher positions.

We seek motivated, broad-minded scientists with research interests that fall within the general disciplines of Earth Surface, Solid Earth, or Planetary Processes. Applications are welcome from individuals studying research problems spanning across disciplines or that have a strong research focus within geophysics, geology, geochemistry, or a related discipline. The candidate is expected to develop a vigorous research group and provide intellectual leadership, while also taking advantage of SIO's diverse scientific community.

SIO is a world-renowned center of solid Earth, planetary, oceanographic, biological, and atmospheric research committed to academic excellence and diversity within its student body, staff, and approximately 200 principal investigators (https://diversity.ucsd.edu). Researchers at SIO receive 11-month appointments with 25% salary support from institutional sources and are expected to provide the rest through externally funded research programs. Researchers at SIO are not required to teach but often obtain non-salaried educator appointments and serve as graduate student advisors.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidates are required to hold a PhD in an area of Earth, Ocean, Atmospheric or Climate Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred qualifications
Interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in research and service, and who are committed to building an equitable and diverse university environment.

Candidates will be considered at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Researcher levels. A record of publication and service commensurate with the level of appointment is required. Candidates at the Associate and Full level are expected to have a record of securing extramural funding.
