Research Associate/Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Department of Neurobiology

University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX, USA

A Research Associate/Postdoctoral fellow position with a competitive salary and benefit is available in the Department of Neurobiology at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) for highly motivated candidates who are interested in sensory biology.  The appointee will join a vibrant and diverse neuroscience community with frequent cross-group interactions including joint lab meetings, journal clubs, and local meetings. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, curious, enthusiastic, prepared to work in a collaborative environment, and committed to rigorous, reproducible science.

Job Responsibility: We seek a candidate to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying sensory perception and related disorders, including pain and deafness (Wu Z et al, Nature Neuroscience, DOI: 10.1038/nn.4449; Zhao B et al, Neuron, doi: 10.1016/j.neuron.2014.10.041). The duties of the appointee include: designing and evaluating experiments under the supervisor’s guidance; analyzing data and drafting manuscripts for publication; taking roles in the lab maintenance with other group members; and assisting the supervisor to mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The appointee will be encouraged to submit their own fellowship and grant applications during the period of training as a part of training and career development.

Qualifications: The candidate should have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in neuroscience or related disciplines with a strong background/experience in cellular and molecular biology. Experience in electrophysiology is an asset! A successful candidate is also expected to have good communication skills, and work cooperatively on multidisciplinary projects.

Equal Employment Opportunity: UTMB Health strives to provide equal opportunity employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, genetic information, disability, veteran status, or any other basis protected by institutional policy or by federal, state or local laws unless such distinction is required by law. As a VEVRAA Federal Contractor, UTMB Health takes affirmative action to hire and advance women, minorities, protected veterans and individuals with disabilities.

How to apply: You may direct questions and/or applications (including a letter of interest with a short summary of past research experience; your curriculum vitae; and a list of three references) to Dr. Zizhen Wu (ziwu@utmb.edu). This position is open immediately and candidates will be sought until the position is filled.
