Position description

The Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Montreal Neurological Institute Hospital (The Neuro) of McGill University invite applications for up to 4 Contract Academic Staff (Research) faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Single Cell Neurobiology. Applications are especially encouraged from individuals applying both wet lab and computational Single Cell approaches to the study of neurodegeneration, neurodevelopment and neurodevelopmental disabilities, neuro-immunological diseases, epilepsy, rare neurological diseases and other brain disorders.

The Neuro is an integral part of McGill University, located in downtown Montreal; one of the most multicultural and lively cities in North America. McGill University offers a leading international research environment in neuroscience and has recently been awarded major funding for a research program in using cell approaches to understand the brain and brain disorders. The neuroscience community at McGill and in greater Montreal is one of the largest and most diverse in North America.

The Neuro provides a highly integrated research and clinical environment, with 9 research groups home to approximately 80 principal investigators, clinics specialized in neurology and neurosurgery, and a clinical research unit conducting multiple clinical trials; this provides a unique environment for studying fundamental and applied neuroscience. 

The Neuro has embarked on a journey to set a global precedent as the first academic institute to fully embrace the principles of Open Science. In that context, the Institute highly encourages its researchers to work under these principles.

Job Duties

• Conduct vigorous cutting-edge research augmenting the existing efforts of the Neuro’s research groups;
•Develop a research program in their own areas of expertise and in coherence with the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery and The Neuro;
• Independently acquire sufficient funds to support training of graduate students at the M. Sc. and PhD levels;
• Disseminate research findings through peer-review publications, and other knowledge translation and exchange activities;
• Contribute to classroom teaching within their area of expertise.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• PhD, MD/PhD in neuroscience or a related field of research with advanced Post-Doctoral training;
• Exhibit evidence of both an exceptionally strong research productivity and the ability to attract competitive funding in their own area of expertise and in coherence with the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Neuro;
• Proven potential to advance the field of neuroscience;
• Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to, and in accordance with circumstances, a track record in – equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI);
• Working knowledge of French or a commitment to acquiring it within a few years of appointment;
• Exhibit evidence of teaching experience.
