Proteomics Core Manager

Proteomics Facility

SUMMARY:

The Proteomics Core Manager will oversee all administrative and operations of the Protein Mass Spectrometry Facility. This position will meet with proteomic facility users to advise on the best proteomic approaches and advise on experimental design. The Proteomics Core Manager will prepare proteomic samples using standardized protocols and develop new protocols as necessary and operate the Q-Exactive mass spectrometer to collect the data and analyze the data. The position will independently troubleshoot any issues that arise in the preparation of the samples and collection and analysis of the data.


This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 06/30/2025 which may be extended based upon available funding.

 

Education and Experience

Required: PhD degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field plus 5-7 years relative experience.

PhD graduate research experience in chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields.

Relevant coursework and advanced knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of Chemistry, and Biochemistry.

And/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong computer skills with experience using software for the analysis of protein mass spectrometry data. Experience operating mass spectrometer and performing proteomic sample prep.


Job Competencies

Flexible availability to maintain and monitor 24/7 operation of mass spectrometer using remote access tools and in person if necessary and fixing problems as they arrive even outside of standard work hours.

Excellent written and communication skills.

Ability to be observant and self-motivated.

Ability to think critically and problem-solve.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with core facility users.

Ability to complete accurate records and follow detailed instructions.

Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
