JOB TITLE: Research Scientist
DATE: 5 August 2022
DEPARTMENT: Pathology
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR: Harry Ostrer, M.D., Professor of Pathology and Pediatrics

POSITION SUMMARY:
This experienced researcher will be part of a team that performs gene discovery and functional genomics studies in human cancer and developmental biology and translates basic science observations into clinical practice. S/he will be part of 2 major studies funded by the National Cancer Institute and a study newly funded by AFWERX (Department of the Air Force). These studies will bring a new generation of functional genomic tests into clinical practice and will transform annotation of genetic variants, prediction of heritable risks, and prediction of responses to drug therapies. The successful candidate should have graduate-level experience in human molecular genetics and genomics, including nucleic acid and protein analysis from human samples and cultured cells, DNA and RNA sequence analysis, Western blotting, flow cytometry, bioinformatics, and statistical analysis. To understand how genetic variation affects molecular and cellular phenotypes, s/he will perform high-throughput functional analyses, gene editing and gene transfection, and DNA and RNA sequencing in conjunction with the Einstein Epigenetics Core Facility. The research scientist will analyze and report findings, then strategize with other team members to assist with formulation of new hypotheses, experiment strategies, and analytical reporting methods.

EDUCATION:
Masters degree or Ph.D. in human molecular genetics or equivalent discipline

EXPERIENCE:
At least 2-5 years of experience in an equivalent research laboratory

SKILLS:
Strong laboratory and analytical organizational skills as reported from prior principal investigators
