A postdoctoral fellowship position is immediately available in the Kopetz Laboratory in the Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The position will involve basic and translational research in the area of metastatic colorectal cancers. The successful candidate will be a key member of a team working on multiple experimental therapeutics projects sponsored by leading pharmaceutical companies and NIH.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Perform laboratory testing of novel agents and combination therapies in vivo and in vitro (cell lines, tissue cultures, and animal models). The primary focus is PDXs in vivo studies.

Plan and perform research projects under minimal supervision using experimental assay techniques such as DNA, RNA, protein extraction, western blotting, IHC, FACS, real-time, and qPCR.

Conduct literature search and scientific papers reading related to the projects.

Perform research data analysis and interpretation.

Modifies and/or develops new techniques.

Maintain accurate sample and data storage and record filling systems on all experiments performed.

Assist lab manager with processing clinical samples, including blood processing and implantation/ maintenance of patient-derived xenografts.

Assists with preparation of grant and contract applications as requested by lab investigators.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Essential qualifications for this position include a Ph.D. in cancer biology or related discipline and a demonstrated ability to communicate research through publications and presentations. A strong background in biochemistry, molecular, and cell biology is required. Preferred qualifications include demonstrated experience in vitro/in vivo pharmacology and basic bioinformatics skills.

Required: Ph.D., DVM, or MD degree with a solid background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology.
Preferred: Ph.D., DVM, and/or MD with demonstrated experience in vitro and in vivo pharmacology projects.
